SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois labor officials are seeking nominees for an annual award that goes to someone who has made a significant contribution toward safety and health for workers.
The Illinois Department of Labor is accepting nominees from downstate Illinois -- outside Chicago and its surrounding suburbs -- until Jan. 4
The nominee selected will receive the Governor's Award for Health and Safety. The award will be given Feb. 27 at the 22nd annual Downstate Illinois Occupational Safety and Health Day.
The Labor Department enforces occupational safety and health standards for the state's public sector. It's Safety Inspection and Education Division also provides consulting services to smaller businesses.
The 2012 Governor's Award went to Michael Connors. He's a former regional administrator for the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
