Decatur - It's being called one of the worst starts to flu season on record, and it has everyone wondering what they can do to avoid catching that dreaded flu bug
In total 48 states have reported widespread cases of the flu, including Illinois.
Two states, California and Mississippi, are reporting regional flu, while Washington DC is reporting local cases of the flu.
Doctors at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur are urging people to still get the flu shot.
"I'm still recommending the vaccination. It's not too late to be vaccinated right now. Again, remember it takes a few weeks for that vaccine to kick into gear and be beneficial for you," Dr. Maria Granzotti told WAND News.
From October through December, St Mary's Hospital has had 154 flu cases
