President takes action on gun violence


President Obama announced his new initiative to address gun violence.


A press conference was held this morning at the White House. President Obama calls for a 500 million dollar program to curb gun violence following the Newtown, Connecticut shooting.


He announced plans of 23 executive actions, including measures to encourage schools to hire police officers, increased research on gun violence, rules to ensure law enforcement conducts background checks before returning seized firearms, and improved efforts to prosecute gun crime.


The President also nominated Todd Jones as the ATF Bureau Director.
