CHAMPAIGN- A study out of Chicago has ranked Champaign County as having the state's third highest percentage of residents living in poverty.
The Social IMPACT research Center reports that 23.4 percent of the county's residents live in poverty. That's in comparison to Jackson- 33.7 percent and Alexander- 31.3 percent.
Marilyn Grandberry, worker with the county's Salvation Army Social Services says the numbers are in tune with the increasing amount of people they serve.
She says nearly two years ago, they would see approximately 17 people a day, whereas now, that number has reached more than 60.
