Champaign – The State Fire Marshal has determined how a fire started on Tuesday morning.
The Fire Marshall has determined the fire, on 1701 West Church Street, was intentionally set. The fire started in the garage then spread to the vacant home on the North West corner of Victor Street.
A second alarm was called for more manpower because of the complexity of the situation and cold weather. Two fire fighters sustained bruises or strains from falls.
The home had major damage to the interior and exterior of the home on the corner of Victor Street. Firefighters say the garage is a total loss. Residents were able to return to their home on Church Street.
The city of Champaign told WAND, complaints were filed last fall about the house's rundown condition.
