Program Offers Incentives for Businesses That "Go Green".

Montgomery County, OH (PRWEB) January 24, 2013

Dayton Regional Green 3 (DRG3) and its partners are launching the Green500 Challenge, a plan to engage 500 area businesses and organizations in the DRG3 Green Business Certification Program.

The City of Dayton, Ohio, Montgomery County, the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Dayton Partnership, DP&L, DPL Energy, upDayton, Five Rivers MetroParks, and Heapy Engineering are leading the effort and encouraging businesses in the region to take part in the challenge.

The DRG3 Green Business Certification Program is a voluntary program designed to help businesses take basic green measures to reduce their ecological footprint, reduce their energy and resource use, and save money in the process. Program emphasis is on day to day operations and policies; making small changes to everyday routines and using effective strategies to save on commercial energy and resources that could potentially save businesses thousands of dollars a year.

At the kick-off event inside the PNC 2nd Street Market in Dayton, several businesses and organizations committed to pursuing the certification this year including Heidelberg Distributing Company, Dayton Children’s Medical Center, the Dayton Art Institute, Harmony Farm, SunWatch Indian Village, Schlegel Creative, Greater Dayton RTA, Great Miami Outfitters. DPL Energy, Salem Office Products, and BioGreen Choice are supporting the Green500 Challenge by offering exclusive deals to Green Certified businesses.

Dayton Regional Green 3, its many partners, and its network of Green Certified Businesses look forward to the growth of this program that will be an indicator of our region’s emphasis on sustainability and economic development. A robust Green Business Certification program can be a vital step to promoting sustainable practices in our region. Investors, young talent, and new businesses are looking for regions and cities that support and promote these practices.

Over 100 businesses have received the Green Business Certification in the program’s brief history. These businesses have used the certification process as a tool to “green” their operations and position themselves as leaders for our region’s future.
