Veterans to mark Lincoln birthday in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois veterans will honor Abraham Lincoln's birthday with a visit to the Lincoln Tomb Historic Site in Springfield.

The tomb is the final resting place of President Lincoln, his wife Mary and three of their four sons.

On Feb. 9 the Veterans of Foreign Wars will make its 66th annual pilgrimage to the site. There will be a eulogy for the nation's 16th president, followed by military honors.

On Feb. 12, which is Lincoln's actual birthdate, members of Springfield American Legion Post 32 will hold their 79th annual pilgrimage. They will lay wreaths from American Legions posts across the country.

Both events are free and open to the public.
