DECATUR-There's a new push from lawmakers to ban all teens from using tanning beds.
Under current state law, teens aged 14 to 17 can tan indoors with parental consent. But a new house bill stop teens from ever using a salon's tanning bed.
Lawmakers say the bill is to protect teens from the health risks associated with tanning.
And dermatologists are on board.
Decatur dermatologist Dr. Francis Lee says teens don't often think of the long-term consequences of tanning. He says the ban could help prevent teens from developing prematurely aged looks, lesions and even cancer.
Under the law, teens would still be able to get spray tans.
A similar bill was proposed last year but never came up for a vote.
