Urbana (AP) -- A judge in Champaign County has sentenced a 15-year-old boy to 20 years in prison for armed robbery.
Judge Tom Difanis says the public deserves to be protected from Denashio Tester.
The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports that Tester was prosecuted as an adult and faced a maximum sentence of 30 years. He could be released in 10 with credit for good behavior.
Tester pleaded guilty in the Oct. 9 armed robbery of a payday loan store. Authorities say he stuck a gun in the face of an employee and demanded cash. He got more than $1,100.
The judge called Tester's case "an incredibly sad and disturbing situation."
In court Wednesday, Tester told the judge he was sorry for his actions and said he wanted to turn his life around.
