Tax Filing May Be Delayed for Some

DECATUR - Tax season is here and it's already causing some frustration.

Because of congress' lengthy discussions to avoid the so-called "fiscal cliff," some being told to wait a few weeks to file their tax returns.

The IRS had until January 30th to get computers and forms updated with the latest changes to the federal tax code.

As a result, if you're a college student or the parent of a college student, you'll have to wait at least two weeks to file, maybe more.

"The common credits that you see for education for students or for the parents of students that are going to be getting education credits. They cannot file as of today, "said Michael Coffman, President of Spencer & Kaufmann.

Although some won't be able to file, Coffman recommends getting your paperwork ready to speed up the process once the IRS is able to accept your return.

The IRS says you should see your refund within 21 days of the day it is filed.
