SPRINGFIELD, Ill.
(AP) -- The death of an inmate at Menard
Correctional Center
in southern Illinois
has been termed "suspicious."
Randolph County Coroner Randy Dudenbostel says an
autopsy is scheduled for the male prisoner found dead Thursday night.
Dudenbostel says an investigation has begun. He wouldn't release any
other information while authorities try to contact family members.
The Illinois Department of Corrections released a statement saying the
inmate was pronounced dead at 6:35 p.m. Thursday. It says the Corrections
Department and Illinois State Police officials are investigating.
A spokesman says the prison agency has no further comment.
