Fourteen people displaced after Sunday fires

SPRINGFIELD -- One dog died and 14 people were displaced after two fires in Springfield.

The first one happened around 11 Sunday morning in the 1100 block of N. Fourth St.

Someone tossed a cigarette, causing a mattress to catch fire.  No one was hurt, and most of the damage was contained to one unit.

A few hours later, another fire broke out about a mile away on E. Reservoir St.  A family of four escaped in time without any injuries.

Misty Grigsby saw the whole thing.

"There was just a bunch of fire trucks and the whole house was up in flames," Grigsby said.

Firefighters are still investigating what caused the fire.
