DECATUR - A Bodine services worker from Decatur is dead after a
fall at the ADM corn processing plant.
Decatur firefighters say the incident
happened around 2:30 Wednesday afternoon. 31 year old Michael Cordray was pronounced
dead Wednesday night at 5:18PM. Cordray was cleaning the interior of a bin/tank
at the ADM Corn Sweetener Facility at Faries
Parkway.
According to the autopsy
release, Cordray died as a result of blunt traumatic injuries, and
compressional asphyxia of the chest. These injuries were sustained when Cordray
fell from a collapsing scaffold; he then landed on a metal beam.
Fire officials say it took 16
fire fighters and a lot of manpower to get the man out.
ADM released a statement
expressing their thoughts are with the contractor's family and friends.
Bodine also released this
statement "We are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend and colleague. Our thoughts
are with his family and friends at this difficult time." In the 52 year history
of the Company we have never experienced a loss like this. The company has
notified OSHA and is fully cooperating in an ongoing investigation.
