Police warn of a man impersonating a police officer
Springfield – Sangamon County Deputies are investigating after a 16 year old girl was assaulted by a man impersonating a police officer.
Sangamon County Undersheriff, Jack Campbell says it happened in the 53 hundred block of Old Jacksonville Road, around 1:45 Sunday morning. Campbell says a 16 year old girl was driving alone on Old Jacksonville road, and was pulled over by a man pretending to be a police officer.
The man had her sit in the car and put his hand on the girl's leg, and genitals. The suspect is described as a white man, around 50 years old, between five ten and six feet. His car is a small old white four door with dents in it.
Police want to remind you that all police cars are equipped with red and blue lights, and when in doubt only pull over in lit or populated areas. In extreme situation call 911 before pulling over.
