DECATUR - The winter storm blew in quickly and made the roads treacherous for drivers.
Local law enforcement agencies are warning motorists to stay off the roads unless it is absolutely necessary. Snow and sleet made their way into central Illinois shortly after 2:00 Thursday afternoon. Salt trucks were out in full force on Illinois route 51 and Interstate 72, prompting I-DOT workers to remind drivers to allow plow drivers ample room to do their jobs.
The treacherous conditions are expected to continue throughout Friday morning.
A number of schools and organizations have canceled activities. Some school have already canceled classes for Friday.
