Free program helps seniors during medical emergencies

DECATUR -- A free program is helping local seniors in medical emergencies.

Local seniors are getting help from the Macon County Health Department by signing up for the program "Cold Facts."

Seniors fill out emergency forms and keep them inside a pill bottle in their refrigerator.

The health department's Marilyn Piasecki said it's not only beneficial for first responders, but it helps seniors' children, too -- who may not be up to date on their parents' medications or doctors.

"They don't have to worry about, 'Oh my gosh, where's mom or dad's bag full of pills?'" said Piasecki.  "They can just grab [the form] and go."

To sign up contact the Macon County Health Department at 423-6550.
