Police investigating two bank robberies


Champaign – A pair of bank robberies around the same time this morning in Champaign have police investigating whether they were connected.


The first happened about 10:30 this morning, at the Regions Bank on South State Street. The second happened just 20 minutes later, at Champaign County Schools Employee Credit Union on South Mattis Avenue.


Police do have descriptions of the suspects who do not appear to be the same person. No one was hurt in either robbery, but a woman went into labor during the first robbery, she was taken away in an ambulance.


Two schools in the area were put on soft lockdown while police investigated. So far no arrests have been made.
