Decatur – A former Decatur Police Officer appears before a judge for arraignment today.
Matthew Knuckles was arrested earlier this year, and is accused of stealing more than five hundred dollars from the department.
Police conducted an investigation leading officers to arrest Matthew A. Knuckles on February 14, for a theft over $500.00 and official misconduct. Knuckles served with the Department for 18 years as a detective for the Department's Street Crime Unit.
The arrest is related to the theft of Decatur Police Department issued funds and falsification of official financial documents.
In a statement Chief of Police Todd Walker said the crime was "disheartening, but whenever a police officer commits criminal misconduct, jeopardizes the agency's integrity and violates the public trust, it will be dealt with by my administration swiftly."
