Decatur – The Decatur City Council is hearing a proposal for a major water rate hike.
The increase would take place over three years. The increase will not only help better the water treatment plant, but help prevent water restrictions.
Director of Water Management Keith Alexander explains how the rate increase would work "Our average residential water customer pays approximately $26 per month for water service. After these increases the rates would be in the mid $50 range after the three year increase."
Instead of the usual quarterly bill the fee would be due monthly.
