Clinton – A groundbreaking in Dewitt County for Clinton's newest elementary school.
The new school replaces two buildings built in 1904 and 1920. The new elementary school is located just north of the current Clinton Junior High School, a location chosen with the help of community input.
Clinton Schools Superintendent Dr. Jeff Holmes told WAND why it was important to get the communities input "The board wanted to engage the community in the process of building a new building. So about a year and a half ago, we started that process and brought the community in and asked them not only where to put the building, but also ideas in terms of what they wanted in the building. Today you see the fruition of that effort."
The new school will include a geo-thermal heating and cooling system. The two old schools will be demolished and turned into "green sites" sometime next year.
