AUSTIN, TX - As Illini Nation knows, the Fighting Illini will live to fight another day. After bolting to a 37-21 half time lead against the Colorado Buffaloes, the Illini survived a second half scare and held on to win 57-49. They will face Miami on Sunday in round two of the NCAA tournament. WAND TV's Matt Loveless and Eric Harrold are covering the tournament and will continue to bring you stories on WAND News.
The victory added to a successful first year resume for Coach John Groce, who replaced Coach Bruce Weber last year. Weber's new team, Kansas State, lost in the first round.
The Big 10, widely regarded as one of the toughest conferences this year, fared well in the first round of the tournament. Illinois, Michigan State, Ohio State, Michigan, Minnesota, and Indiana all advanced. Wisconsin was the only team that lost.
