Champaign – In the heart of campus a U of I bookstore will close its doors after 75 years.
Follett's bookstore has been sold to JSM Development. The new company hopes to turn it into a multi-tenant building with three or four retailers.
Follett's owner says it is prime location at the corner of Green and Wrights Streets is the reason for the decision. The property value is increasing and it is no longer economically feasible to operate there.
Follett's stopped selling textbooks and course materials about a year ago.
