Prosecutors drop challenge in Beaman case

Decatur – Still no closure for the family of an ISU student from Decatur murdered 20 years ago.

Just yesterday, prosecutors announced they are no longer challenging a petition for an innocence certificate from Alan Beaman originally convicted of murdering his ex girlfriend, and Decatur native Jennifer Lockmiller.

Beaman spent more than 13 years in prison for the murder, until the Illinois Supreme Court reversed his conviction in 2008. Lockmiller was strangled and stabbed in her Normal apartment in 1993.

Beaman is requesting the innocence certificate to clear his name.
