Champaign – An early morning fire claims the life of one person in Champaign.
Firefighters were called to 407 South State Street after 6 this morning, that's the corner of State and Healy Streets. The fire was in the second story apartment of a two story building. Police found a female dead in the apartment, a cause of death has not been released. The victim did not live in the apartment.
Heavy fire and smoke damaged the apartment and water damaged the unit below. Champaign Police and coroner are investigating. An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.
