Renner elected Mayor of Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON - It's official. Tari Renner has been elected Mayor of Bloomington Illinois, fending off challenges by John Hanson and Lex Green in Tuesday's consolidated election.

Renner was the runner-up in the 2009 election and will be sworn in May 1. He won by 1500 votes.

Renner has his work cut out for him. He faces several high-profile issues, including how to deal with $114 million in pension debt and other several other infrastructure needs.

Renner, 54, is a political science professor at Illinois Wesleyan University. He lost the 2009 mayoral race by 15 votes to outgoing Mayor Steve Stockton.
