DECATUR- Former Decatur police detective Matthew Knuckles has been sentenced to probation.
Knuckles was arrested and charged with stealing nearly $10,000 in police funds back in February.
An police internal investigation revealed that Knuckles was responsible for misusing funds that were department property. He reportedly covered up his misuse, which took place between June 2012 to January 2013, with false documents.
Knuckles pleaded guilty to official misconduct, a class 3 felony, and will spend 24 months on probation. He was also ordered to pay restitution for the missing money.
Knuckles was an 18-year veteran of the police department; he resigned one day after his arrest.
