Springfield – Soon
you will pay more in sales tax in Springfield.
Aldermen voted late last night to increase the city's sales
tax, by half a percent. That means you will pay 8.5% sales tax in most of the
city. However, the "Legacy Pointe" Development Area, which includes Scheels,
already has a 9% sales tax.
The money generated by the tax will be used repay an 86
million dollar bond to finance the city's 3 year infrastructure program.
