Decatur – You may notice the amount of litter and cigarette butts that accumulate on Macon County streets.
Volunteers helped make our area a little less polluted. On Saturday and Sunday morning, The Macon County Health Department brought together various groups for a Cigarette butt clean up day.
Alissa Dierick, Health Educator explains the importance of keeping our communities clean "it's definitely important to raise awareness about the number of cigarettes we have here in Macon County um in 2012 we had the 4th highest smoking percentage for adults out of all the Illinois counties. Just really to raise awareness but also put a positive spin that we're trying to help clean up the community and make it healthier for everyone."
Volunteers walked around Fairview Park and two other locations.
