Representatives hopeful to reduce welfare system fraud
Decatur – The state's top republican leader joined with two local lawmakers today in Decatur.
Representatives Tom Cross, Bill Mitchell, and Adam Brown rolled out a bill that they claim will reduce fraud and misuse of the state's welfare system. Users of a link card, or food stamps would be required to show a photo ID. They would also be banned from buying alcohol, cigarettes, lottery tickets and other questionable things with a link card.
The representatives say the goal of the proposed law is to save taxpayers money, and preserve the welfare benefits for those who need it most.
