The Decatur Fire Department and St. Mary's Hospital will begin accepting applications for the 2013 Summer Junior Fire Cadet Program the 1st of May.
All interested youth (male and female), ages 8 through 17 are encouraged to participate. The program will be in session for four (4) weeks beginning June 3rd and continuing through June 27th, 2013. Graduation will be held June 28th, 2013 in the evening.
Classes will meet from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon, Monday through Thursday. The training location is Garfield Montessori Magnet School, 300 W. Meadow Terrace Pl. Program enrollment will be limited to the first one hundred (100) cadets.
This is a program where firefighters and other responsible community leaders are presented as mentors and teachers in a regimented curriculum designed to build sound character, teach safety awareness and develop the qualities necessary for productive citizenship. The program includes a broad spectrum of training in various areas of safety, self-discipline and motivation. We stress accountability, respect and personal growth through academic, physical and psychological challenges.
Applications will be available at any Decatur Fire Station. Applications can be picked up at these locations and MUST be returned on or before 4:30 p.m., May 29, 2013.
