Firefighters investigating duplex fire


Urbana – Firefighters are investigating an early morning fire that heavily damaged a duplex.


It happened at 1106 East Main Street in Urbana. Fire Chief Mike Dilley says a graduate student living in one side of the house was up studying around 3 a.m. and smelled smoke. She found a fire on the back porch, and she and the other woman living there got out for safety.


About 20 firefighters responded to the fire. They are still investigating the cause. Chief Dilley estimates about 45 thousand dollars in damages.
