Still No Murder Charge in Pana Stabbing Death

PANA-It's been more than two weeks since a man was stabbed to death in Pana and still no one's been charged with murder. The Christian County State's Attorney and Pana Police are releasing few details about the case. ISP and Pana police are still investigating, but no one's been charged yet and it's making some in town uneasy.

In the early hours of April 13th, 29 year old James Adam Bertin was stabbed to death. His cousin Joe Shoraga was there.

"My cousin was bleeding, I know they had stabbed him, but when I got to him, he was gone," Shoraga says.

A friendly bonfire erupted into a brawl and ultimately murder. There are five people still in jail in connection with the murder. Four have been charged with mob action held on 250 thousand dollars bond. One charged with obstruction of justice.

But weeks after the crime scene tape has come down, no one has been charged with killing Bertin.

After multiple attempts neither the state's attorney nor the police would return calls to WAND

When WAND asked if a grand jury is convening, the response from the state's attorney's office was "no comment."
