Springfield – A memorial service honoring fallen police officers was held at the capitol today.
Governor Quinn spoke at the annual ceremony, paying special tribute to State Trooper Kyle Deatherage. He was killed in the line of duty this year.
Quinn told the crowd that words can not describe such a loss "There are no words in the English language or any language that can relieve the pain of losing a loved one who has given their life for the public."
Today's memorial procession started at the fairgrounds and marched through downtown Springfield, to the memorial on the capitol grounds.
