Caterpillar announces more layoffs at Decatur plant

Decatur – Caterpillar announced they will be laying off an additional 300 employees at their Decatur plant.

In a statement from Caterpillar they said the Decatur plant builds mainly mining products, which has seen a weaker market compared to last year. The company put in to action temporary layoffs, shutdowns, and shortened workweeks to help with cost. However, the declining mining economy forced CAT into cutting nearly 500 jobs just last month, now they will layoff 300 more in the next 60 days.

The indefinite layoffs will include production and support/management roles. CAT also said the majority of the layoffs will impact those from the production workforce. The company understands the impact this will have on their employees. At this time they are taking steps to bring production in line with demand.
