DIRT Takes Down Suspected Drug Dealers

SPRINGFIELD - Since being reinstated in March, Sangamon County's "DIRT" team, or Drug Interdiction Response Team, has taken down several local drug dealers.

The latest example: Reginald Swope, 26, was arrested for suspected manufacture and delivery of cocaine.

During the search, deputies say they found 4 ounces of cocaine, 34 grams of marijuana, $1,000 in cash and a .22 caliber pistol.

Sangamon County Undersheriff Jack Campbell says citizens can expect similar arrests in the future.

"The mission of the DIRT Team is to attack the neighborhood nuisance drug dealers," Campbell told WAND News. "We will certainly go up to the larger level of drug dealers given the opportunity."

In addition to drugs and guns, the team has confiscated more than $18,000 from criminals as well.
