Jury Selection Continues in Harris Murder Trial

PEORIA - Jury selection will continue this week in the trial of a man accused of murdering a family of five from Beason.

Christopher Harris, 34, faces 33 counts of murder for the deaths of Rick and Ruth Gee and three of their children: Justina Constant, 16, Dillen Constant, 14, and Austin Gee. Harris has pleaded not guilty. A girl who, then 3 years old, survived despite suffering life-threatening injuries.

Attorneys for Christopher Harris claim that he killed 14-year-old Dillen Constant in self-defense. Harris's attorneys claim Constant was in the process of killing his family members when Harris arrived.

So far, 8 jurors have been selected. Four people need to be selected along with four alternates.

Attorneys started interviewing potential jurors Wednesday.

Prosecutors say Harris and his brother, Jason, broke into the family's home in Beason in 2009 intending to sexually assault Justina Constant and to rob the family.

Jason Harris' trial hasn't been scheduled.
