Champaign Police Host Open House

CHAMPAIGN - For the second year, the Champaign Police Department hosted an Open House event for the community.

Outside of the police department, community members could view various displays and demonstrations from officers with specific units, like the SWAT team and Bomb Squad.

Inside, officers conducted station tours, each ending at a Historical Exhibit. Organized by the Historical Society, a group of retired Champaign police officers, the exhibit featured historic department photographs and tools.

The annual event is meant to showcase the department's resources as well as unite the department with community members. Chief Anthony Cobb says that in future years, he hopes to expand the open house to an all-out block party involving neighboring businesses.
