Springfield — The Illinois Capital Area Chapter will hold a Volunteer Orientation on Thursday, June 13 to give interested parties in Christian, Logan, Macoupin, Menard, Montgomery, Sangamon and Shelby counties an inside look at the world of a Red Cross volunteer.

TIME: 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
LOCATION: Illinois Capital Area Chapter office (1045 Outer Park Drive, Springfield)
The local chapter looking for people with various backgrounds, talents and skill levels to volunteer in Christian, Logan, Macoupin, Menard, Montgomery, Sangamon and Shelby counties.
The Red Cross works with new volunteers to find roles that best suit each person's skills and interests. These include responding to disasters; assisting local military members, their families, and veterans; staffing first aid stations; teaching lifesaving skills and disaster training courses; delivering meals to community members through our Meals on Wheels program; educating the community on disaster and emergency preparation; general office duties; public affairs; and assisting with special events and fundraisers.
Following the orientation, a "Disaster Services: An Overview" class will take place. This free course explains how the American Red Cross responds to disasters and the role of its volunteers during such times. Anyone is welcome regardless of age or experience.
