Springfield Dentists Provide Free Care Friday

Springfield - If you've been to the dentist office you know that a trip to the dentist chair can become quite expensive.
On Friday, Advanced Dental Care of Springfield provided adults over 18 with free dentistry with some people showing up as early as 3:30 in the morning, and even some coming from out of state, all for a good cause:  clean teeth and a better smile.

We think of healthy teeth leading to a pretty smile, but in reality, clean teeth can mean much more than that.

That's why dentists like Dr. Matt VanderMolen provide people in need with free dentistry once a year.

"One of the problems in the state of Illinois particularly is that there's really no programs for adult patients and so this day is limited to adults that are 18 and over.  There's several programs for kids, but there's really a huge need for adult patients," said Dr. VanderMolen.

That included patients like Joe Courtney.

"Just the relief I'm going to have from not having to have this swelling and pain, and the fact that it was free it makes a big difference," said Courtney.

In the four years of the program, dentists have donated time and labor that would equal about $180,000.
