Researchers head to Washington to study bridge collapse

Champaign – U of I researchers are heading to Washington State to study a bridge that collapsed last month.

A bridge over a river in Washington collapsed on May 23rd, sending two cars into the water below. The bridge had been declared in fair condition before a section gave way.

U of I researchers will visit the site this week to investigate the condition of the bridge and the damage. They will use the information collected to increase bridge safety nationwide in the future.
