Alternate routes encouraged to Sangamon County Fair
SANGAMON COUNTY - The following note is from the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office, regarding the Sangamon County Fair:
Due to traffic delays and congestion in the recent past, the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office would like to remind all Sangamon County fair visitors to take advantage of alternate routes into the fairgrounds whenever possible. Alternate routes are imperative during the evening hours, especially on Friday and Saturday night.
In the past, the concert nights caused a back-up on I-72 at the New Berlin exit, which was a serious safety hazard. Visitors coming from the east or the Springfield area should utilize the exit 91 at Curran and travel Route 54 towards New Berlin. If coming from in Springfield, travel west on the Old Jacksonville Road, then south on either Link Road or Pleasant Plains/Waverly Road, on either side of Berlin and into New Berlin. Coming from the west, take the Alexander exit off I-72 to old Route 54 towards New Berlin.
By utilizing these alternate routes, all visitors should be able to avoid delays and safely park their vehicle and enjoy the fair.
The Sheriff's Office reminds everyone to stay hydrated, drink responsibly and above all, enjoy all the Sangamon County Fair has to offer.
