Home sales up in Macon County

DECATUR -- New home sales in the U.S. are increasing at the fastest rate in five years.  And realtors say the housing market in Macon County is busy this summer, too.

Local home sales in the county are up 15 percent from this time last year.

Decatur realtor Sandy Dotson often hears buyers looking for homes in close proximity to interstates and malls and big lot size.

She said Decatur is a relocation community due to the city's manufacturers, hospitals and railroad.  That's helping keep the local housing market busy.

"It makes a big difference in our relocation market," Dotson said.

Dotson said she has recently seen an increase in first-time buyers, especially in the West End.
