Three dead after early morning fire

Jacksonville – Three members of a Jacksonville family are dead after an early morning fire.

One adult and two children, under the age of 10 died in the fire. It happened at a mobile home park in the 1600 block of Mount Zion Road, around one Thursday.

The Morgan County coroner reported that Kayla Perry, and her two children, 7 year-old Joshua, and 4 year-old Christopher, all died from smoke inhalation.

Chapin and South Jacksonville fire responded, and fire crews spent several hours on scene putting out the fire.

While the town copes with this tragedy, it's been especially hard on the firefighters who tried to save their lives.

"It's going to have a pretty big impact.  Any time you lose a child, it's tough.  It's um, we've got a pretty tight group.  And so we're, checking on each other to make sure everything's okay," said Chapin Fire Chief Scott Pahlmann.

The cause is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal and Morgan County Sheriff's Department. We will have more information as it becomes available.
