Drivers took to the streets at Richland Community College

Posted:

Decatur - According to the Illinois Department of Transportation close to 500 deaths from car crashes on Illinois roadways this year.

This weekend a driving competition took place a t Richland Community College to teach people about safety on the highways. Engines were roaring and tires were screeching at the Richland parking lot.

Over 30 people took part in Sunday's auto cross event. The closed course had tight turns, and weaving in and out of cones at speeds of 40 or 50 miles per house, forcing drivers to look ahead to avoid distractions.

All proceeds from the event go towards scholarships for students at Richland Community College.
