Mattoon – A home in Mattoon is heavily damaged after a fire broke out this Tuesday morning.
The fire started in a home, in the 600 block of Edgar Street. The fire is under investigation, but the Red Cross told WAND that four adults and two children were rescued from the home. Two people were treated on scene for smoke inhalation. There were no other severe injuries.
Red Cross volunteers provided the family with their emergency disaster caused needs including food and shelter. The disaster team also provided canteen services (food and water) to approximately 30 first responders on the scene fighting the fire.
