American Red Cross looking to restock blood supplies

Decatur – The American Red Cross is looking for blood donors to restock supplies.

Many American Red Cross locations want people to donate blood especially during the summer. As people are on vacation and students are out of school, the lines are not as long as they usually are.

Executive Director for Decatur, Carl Barker told WAND that getting blood is vital during this time of year. "Every unit that we do not collect blood a patient goes without getting a unit of blood. It is very important that we maintain an adequate level of blood supply across the United States and right now the American Red Cross is down about 50,000 units of blood."

The Red Cross is currently in need of 0-negative, B-negative, and A-negative blood types. Just one unit of blood will help to save three live.
