Ill. officials offer free motorcycle training


Springfield -- The Illinois Department of Transportation has openings available in upcoming motorcycle training courses.


The Illinois State University Motorcycle Safety Project offers free rider education courses at 11 locations throughout central Illinois.


There are openings for courses at Richland Community College in Decatur, Illinois State University in Normal, and the Caterpillar plant in Pontiac.


Courses are open to anyone at least 16 years old who holds a valid automobile or motorcycle driver's license or permit.


Novice and experienced riders can both benefit.


The course includes about 20 hours of instructions.


Participants will receive a textbook, seven hours of classroom instruction and 13 hours of hands-on training.
