Employees Shocked by Nursing Home Layoffs

DANVILLE - Nearly 40 employees from the Vermilion Manor Nursing Home lost their jobs this week, after the county-owned facility came under new ownership.

FNR Healthcare Group closed with the county on Thursday. By Wednesday, many had received calls saying they were not being offered new employment contracts.

According to Shawna Stewart, a CNA who was let go Wednesday over the telephone, employees were "led to believe" their jobs were safe during the sale.

Stewart says the lay offs came "out of the blue" with "no warning" and "no reason" provided.

On Friday, neither FNR Healthcare Group or the Vermilion County Board could be reached for comment.
