Champaign – Police have released more information about a shooting between an officer and a driver.
Police say Sergeant Geoffrey Coon pulled over a car that did not stop at a stop sign. During the traffic stop Sergeant Coon saw open containers of alcohol inside the vehicle. When the driver exited the vehicle, he took out a gun and placed it to his own head.
Both men struggled over the gun when it went off. The driver and Sgt. Coon were injured during the struggle and received medical treatment. Sgt. Coon was treated for injuries received during the struggle and was later released. The driver, whose name is not being disclosed at this time, has also been released from the hospital.
Preliminary information shows the officer did not fire the gun. They both have since been released from the hospital, but now word yet on any arrests.
