Central Illinois apple growers reporting successful crop
CHAMPAIGN -- The hot weather isn't stopping one Central Illinois crop from having one of its best years in recent history.
Curtis Orchard in Champaign said its apple crops are breaking records. All 30 apple varieties are ripening on schedule. Orchard co-owner, Randy Graham, said apples' size and colors are looking good, too.
"We're hoping it continues because we've got a lot of good fruit out there," said Graham.
Growers are thanking this year's mild summer. The cooler weather has even allowed several new kinds of apples to have their first successful crop.
"I think people will be real thrilled with what they find."
The orchard is open to the public seven days a week.
